A small Utah town’s Fourth of July Parade normally goes without a hitch and is, by and large, not a national story. But Fox 13 in Salt Lake City reports that the town of Huntsville’s parade last week featured a last-minute entry that parodied President Barack Obama in what many felt was a very negative fashion–especially for a family event.

The float, which was entered at the last minute and did not undergo official approval, showed a person dressed as President Obama walking out of mock government car with the license plate, “Obamination.” Several signs on the float read “Huntsville Welcomes Obama’s Farewell Tour?” and “Ask about our assault gun plan. Call Eric Holder.”

Huntsville Mayor Jim Truett and City Council member Laurie Allen say the float does not reflect the view of the city. “I don’t think we would have allowed it, in fact I know we wouldn’t,” said Allen. “We just don’t want that. It’s a family-oriented celebration.”

The local Sheriff’s department called the Secret Service after some residents expressed concern that the float was a threat to the President. What many people found offensive was a photo where the person dressed as Obama seemed to be grabbing his crotch. However, one person who called Fox News said that it was actually a disco dance, not crotch grabbing. She added that the photo was shot at a bad time.

Though some resident’s disagree that there was anything around with the float.

“I thought it was cute,” Glen Deem said. “We live in America and we can voice our own opinions.”

Another resident said that “famous people are roasted all the time.”
