Who said youth and young adults from Southeast aren’t doing anything positive? Over at Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative, young adults are reversing stereotypes, gaining workforce development skills, and keeping their communities safe. Over the summer 48 young adults from Ward 8 participated in the Far Southeast Family Strengthening Collaborative (FSFSC) “Safe Summer 2012 Initiative”. The initiative is a collaborative effort and partnership between several organizations including FSFSC, The District of Columbia Government, Department of Parks and Recreation, Metropolitan Police Department, and Anacostia Coordinating Council. The goal of the initiative is to offer programs for youth and families during non-traditional hours in an effort to decrease crime and violence in Ward 8 communities. Young adults from Ward 8 were employed by FSFSC to carry out this important mission of keeping our streets safe.

In addition to gaining life altering experiences in community and civic engagement, four of the 48 Safe Summer Crew members got together to share their mission over a dope beat.
