Olympic gold medalist Tianna Madison may have just won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics, but she returned home to face a libel, slander and defamation lawsuit by her parents, Jo Ann and Robert Madison. The lawsuit alleges that Tianna falsely accused her parents of mismanaging her money and allowing a boy who molested her to enter their home while she was present. The suit also names Tianna’s husband John Bartoletta, and is asking for compensatory damages in excess of $25,000 and punitive damages in excess of $25,000 plus court costs and fees.

The Madisons say they’ve been loving, supportive and generous parents, reports The Chronicle-Telegram. The sprinter’s family had flown to London to watch their daughter win gold as part of the U.S. women’s 4x100m relay team. Madison ran the opening leg, and was followed by Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter. The team went on to set a world record with a time of 40.82 seconds.

Brian Butler, spokesman for Tianna Madison and John Bartoletta, said the couple was not going to comment publicly on the accusations.

“This should be a time for not just Tianna, but her family to celebrate all she has gone through and her winning a gold medal,” he said. “That is what she is going to focus on at this time.”

The lawyer for Madison’s parents Scott Schooler said that despite filing the lawsuit, the couple want to reconcile with their daughter.

“They are not seeking any financial gain,” he said. “At the end of the day, they would like to restore their relationship with their daughter. Beyond that, I am not going to comment on the parameters of any possible resolution.”

Wow, with parents like these….
