(Washington, DC) – Radio-One DC’s News Award Winning News and Community Affairs Director, Sheila Stewart, will be the Mistress of Ceremony at the prestigious National Congress of Black Women Awards Brunch Sunday, September 23rd 2012 at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC. Stewart is one of the most sought after motivational speakers in the DC Metropolitan area and was most recently honored as “News Director of the Year” at The Washington Post and saluted with US Supreme Court Judge (Sonia Sotomeyer) for community works.

This year, the organization will honor U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge, Paula Reid. She is currently responsible for the Secret Service’s Miami office which includes, Southern Miami and the Caribbean, plus South and Central America.

In addition to Paula Reid, some of the DC area’s most notable women will be honored, including world renowned psychiatrist and author of the Isis Papers – Dr. Frances Cress Welsing; Dr. Sakiliba Mines – expert integrative medicine physician and owner of TIMMED SPA, Hazel Trice-Edney – President and CEO of Trice-Edney Wire Service, Dr. John Hope Bryant – President and CEO of Operation Hope, and the posthumous award will go to Mrs .Mildred Hemmons Carter – 1st female licensed pilot in Alabama. The Honorable Dr. E. Faye Williams is the National Chair for the organization with over 65,000 plus members across the country. Past winners have been Actress Cicely Tyson, Entertainment Mogul Suzannne De Passe, First Lady Michelle Obama and numerous others.

Stewart, one of the cities top “community advocates” often lends her name to various charitable causes and works diligently with The National NAACP; 100 Black Men of America; The Jack and Jill Foundation; The Susan Komen Race for the Cure; The National Institute of Health Donor Program; 100 Fathers Inc and numerous others. Stewart is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and is married to Pastor Bill Russell & mother of a two year old son.
