With the year nearing its end, companies are taking the time out to acknowledge those who have left an indelible mark on the world. Ebony is doing just that. The media titan will celebrate its first Power 100 Gala.

While Ebony celebrates the 100 people who they feel best represents the word “power,” their headlining performers have proved they have got it. The headlining act of the event, which will take place on November 2 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, are none other than The Roots. The hip-hop band will be joined by other acts that include the cast of the Broadway smash “Fela,” The Black Monks of Mississippi, classic violinist Brendon Elliot, and the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

The Power 100 Gala will honor African-Americans who exemplify power in all facets of the word–strength, focus, commitment and determination—those who innovate, uplift, and help shape the world in multiple ways. The honorees will be placed into 21 different categories including “The Anointed,” “The Environmentalists,” “The Powerbrokers,” “The Thought Leaders” and “The Young Gifted & Black.”

The complete Power 100 list will be revealed in the December/January issue of Ebony Magazine. That issue will be made available during the week of November 5th.
