16 years ago today, March 9, 1997, the world of hip hop  music, lost one of its greatest artists, The Notorious B.I.G.  Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace, is still one of the greatest rappers of all time, and til this day, his music continues to live on.

Some called him Biggie Smalls, others called him B.I.G., but no matter the name, we’ll always love Big Poppa.

Biggie was apart of Sean “Diddy” Combs Bad Boy, and was the hottest artist on the label.  His debut album Ready To Die in 1994, put him on top of the East Coast, and also gave listeners an insight to his life before the rap game.

In 1997, an unknown shooter shot Biggie four times.  Bullets hit him in the chest, shoulder, leg, forearm and scrotum, while in the passenger’s seat of a Chevy Suburban on Wilshire Boulevard.  The assailant has not yet been caught, but the investigation is still ongoing.

Days after his death, his second and last album Life After Death rose to No. 1 on the US charts.  Life After Death went Diamond in 2000.

The music and spirit of B.I.G. continue to live on.  In 2009, the movie ‘Notorious’ hit theaters, depicting the life and death of the great rapper.  Today’s rappers look to his style for guidance and inspiration.  Below is the video for his first single “Juicy”.
