The Queen of Jazz, The First Lady of Song, the beautiful and wonderful Ella Fitzgerald.

Ella Fitzgerald was an American jazz vocalist, and her voice was as beautiful as she was.  Recognized for the ranges that she would sing, and the power behind them.  Born in Newport News, VA and made her way to an early singing career by performing at different gigs, even at the  world famous Apollo Theater.  It was when she hooked up with Chick Webb that her career took off.  Making her an icon to the Jazz world.

Some of Ella’s most famous songs are “Summertime”, “A-Tisket, A-Tasket”, and “Love & Kisses”.  Ella Fitzgerald won 13 Grammys  and was also awarded The National Medal of Arts by President Ronald Reagan, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George H. W. Bush.

Ella Fitzgerald was an amazing artist, and like most icons, her music still lives on today.  Check out one of MY favorite Ella songs “Summertime”  below!

Happy Birthday Ella Fitzgerald!!
