From The Sound Live:

The District of Columbia has been buzzing about ‘The District’ Mixtape. Washington , D.C Radio DJ’s Giovanni Zeus and DJ Gemini have teamed up with DMV Super Producer/Rapper Chris Barz to create DC’s first collaboration album with orginal tracks. The tape is set to be more than a mixtape but a representation of a new day in Washington, D.C.

“It’s without question that there is great talent brewing in the nation’s capitol,” said Giovanni Zeus, “It’s just a matter of us learning to work together to let the world hear our DC voice.” Zeus, a native of Prince George’s County, is a radio personality on 93.9 WKYS, Washington, D.C’s Number 1 Hip Hop Station and is no stranger to DC music after leading a ‘Go-Go’ band in the late 2000s. DJ Gemini is a world famous DJ and one of the best in the DMV area also DJing on 93.9 WKYS every day for the world famous Lunch Break Mix. Chris Barz is a big producer out of the DMV who has worked with Wale, Tiara Thomas, & others.

These three together have been building a buzz for the mixtape and have built up heavy anticipation as the Chocolate City is anxiously waiting to see what the mixtape will sound like.

The tape features Wale, Raheem Davaughn, Phil Ade, Fat Trel, Phil Da Future, Shy Glizzy, Bullet Brak, Reesa Renee, Fatz Da Big Fella, Black Cobain, Black Alley, Marlee in the Mix, Jay IDK, Ari Lennox, Lyriciss, Kingpin Slim, RA the MC, Layla Khepri, Tabi Bonney, Flex Kartel and Chris Barz as well as some Production by Barz. The tape will also be hosted by a well known public figure in the D.C. area and pioneer of Radio One, Mo’ Betta’ Man, a resident of Washington , D.C for 60+ years.

Zeus and Gemini have both confirmed that The District will drop at midnight on August, 15th nearly a month after it’s previous scheduled release date, July 17th. Members of both camps say this tape can change the scenery in Washington D.C and bring together the Chocolate City.

No word on a tracklist or single, but with the relase date nearly 2 weeks away we should expect to see a tracklist next week.
