KING HOLIDAY!!!  SING, SING CELEBRATE!!!!

A little over 30 years ago, back in 1983  Martin Luther King Jr. Day became an official federal holiday.  MLK Day is celebrated on third Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King’s birthday, January 15.

The support around the observance of the MLK holiday was very huge in the urban community during the 80’s.  Besides being vocal with rallies, many music entertainers showed their support through music.  The first artist to show support was Stevie Wonder with his single “Happy Birthday”.   Not too long after Stevie, many other top music artists & rappers of the 80’s (Whitney Houston, Run DMC, Teena Marie, The Fat Boys, New Edition, Menudo**yes with Ricky Martin** and more) came together to form the King Dream Chorus and recorded “KING HOLIDAY”.

If you are an 80’s baby.. you definitely remember the video!!!
