DJ Frankie Knuckles, who was responsible with pioneering house music, lost his battle with Type 2 Diabetes and died Monday. He was 59 years old. Knuckles, who was born in The Bronx, later moved to Chicago where he made his musical mark and packed clubs with his blend of disco and soul. He later worked as a remixer for artists such as Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson

Musicians, DJs, and all lovers of Chicago house music took to Twitter to express their condolences for the Grammy-award winning DJ. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emannuel released a statement calling Knuckles Chicago’s ”most treasured cultural pioneers.”
