Michael Jordan isn’t usually the one to speak publicly about political or controversial issues, but with L.A. Clippers’ owner, Donald Sterling, racists comments, MJ is opening up.

Over the weekend, audio of Donald Sterling scolding his girlfriend about associating herself with blacks, hit the net.

It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. I’m just saying, in your … Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people. Don’t put him (Magic JOhnson) on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.”

Since then, Sterling has had a firestorm of feedback for his comments. Moments ago, NBA legend, Michael Jordan, has issued a statement on Sterling’s comments.

Michael Jordan released a statement about the alleged comments made by Donald Sterling.

“I look at this from two perspectives – as a current owner and a former player. As an owner, I’m obviously disgusted that a fellow team owner could hold such sickening and offensive views. I’m confident that [Commissioner] Adam Silver will make a full investigation and take appropriate action quickly. As a former player, I’m completely outraged. There is no room in the NBA – or anywhere else – for the kind of racism and hatred that Mr. Sterling allegedly expressed. I am appalled that this type of ignorance still exists within our country and at the highest levels of our sport. In a league where the majority of players are African-American, we cannot and must not tolerate discrimination at any level.”

President Obama, Basketball legend, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, Lebron James among other celebrities have spoken out about the comments. As of right now, the NBA is launching a full inverstigation on the audio from the tape that has been released.

In a statement released to TMZ, Sterling has issued an apology.

“Mr. Sterling is emphatic that what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life. We do know that the woman on the tape—who we believe released it to TMZ Sports—is the defendant in a lawsuit brought by the Sterling family, alleging that she embezzled more than $1.8 million, who told Mr. Sterling that she would ‘get even.”

Let’s just wait and see the results from the NBA’s investigation conclude. It just makes me sick to my stomach that we still deal with racism in this country.
