Darren Wilson wristbands

There is an old saying: “What’s understood doesn’t have to be explained.”

Apparently, police officers in Ferguson and St. Louis, Missouri are lacking in the understanding department, so the United States Department of Justice had to explain to them that it’s inappropriate to where “I Am Darren Wilson” wristbands while policing protests in Ferguson.

Darren Wilson, the Ferguson police officer who shot and killed unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown on August 9, has testified before a grand jury but has yet to be charged with a crime.

And when Black men are moving targets slain whenever police officers “feel threatened,” wearing a wristband to support a stone cold “alleged” murderer with a badge is probably the most disrespectful, insensitive and stupid course of action.

Captain Ron Johnson, who stepped in to stabilize the Ferguson protests after officers began utilizing militarized weaponry on innocent protesters, including tear gas and sonic bombs with the capacity to cause permanent hearing loss, had this to say during a press conference on Wednesday:

“I think that that was not a statement of law enforcement, that wearing of that was an individual statement. I do expect that our officers, this unified command and all those that respond, respond in a professional manner and that when we wear this uniform, we understand that we’ve got a professional standard that we adhere to.”

Christy Lopez, Deputy Chief of the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ, released a letter on Friday saying that the use of the wristbands  “exacerbating an already tense atmosphere.”
