Both Kendrick Lamar and D’Angelo are having a stellar year so far; K. Dot’s latest release, To Pimp a Butterfly, is the album everyone is talking about—from hip-hop aficionados waxing about its lyrical and thematic heft, to cultural critics offering in-depth analysis of everything from the album’s subject matter to its rebellious, revolutionary cover art. And then, there was his surprise performance  on the back of a truck in Los Angeles this week.

After 14 years out of the spotlight, D’Angelo is showing 2015 absolutely no mercy. From his wildly acclaimed performance on SNL in February, to his successful run of shows in Europe and New York City, D’Angelo and the Vanguard continue to soar on the momentum kicked off by the surprise release of his third studio album, Black Messiah, this past December.

Now that summer music festival season is officially upon us, it comes as no surprise that these two saviors of soul have begun to pop on rosters around the globe: both will be at Bonnaroo in June, D’Angelo is scheduled to rock North Sea Jazz Festival in July, and now, just announced yesterday, both artists are slated to take the stage at San Francisco’s Outside Lands Festival in August.

Now in its eighth year, Outside Lands is held in San Francisco’s famed Golden Gate Park and attracted well over 200,000 revelers in 2014. With prices for 3-day festival tickets hovering around $300, each year’s line-up announcement is met with eager anticipation. Previous years’ line-ups have included Kanye West, Big Boi, Erykah Badu, The Roots, and Nas. Tickets for the 2015 Outside Lands festival go on sale Friday, March 27.
