Trevor Noah didn’t run through and delete his old tweets before he was announced as Jon Stewart‘s successor. As a result, he had to suffer the backlash of opportunistic conservatives. The announcement was overshadowed by anti-Semitism accusations over his bad jokes from years ago.

So one day after the news, Comedy Central and Noah had to do some damage control. The network issued the following statement:

Like many comedians, Trevor Noah pushes boundaries; he is provocative and spares no one, himself included. To judge him or his comedy based on a handful of jokes is unfair. Trevor is a talented comedian with a bright future at Comedy Central.

Noah couldn’t play it slick either; he had to respond, too.

Hopefully, we can move on. And hopefully, Noah has grown as a comedian (it’s not about those tweets being anti-Semitic as much about those jokes sucking).
