Did you know the late Aaliyah was supposed to play the title role of Honey in the 2003 dance film but due to her untimely death, Jessica Alba was cast. Though the film debuted at #2 opening weekend, it received mostly negative reviews including a Rotten Tomatoes score of 20% out of 100%.

Honey grossed over $12 million opening weekend. To put that in perspective, the Michael B. Jordan film, Creed just grossed over $42 million opening weekend.

Though the first film flopped, Kat Graham (Vampire Diaries) starred in the 2011, straight to DVD sequel Honey 2.

As if the world needed a third installment in the franchise; singer, model and P.Diddys girlfriend, Cassie will star in Honey 3 in 2016.

Here’s the premise according to Shadow & Act, “After losing her place at the University of Cape Town’s prestigious dance academy, Malea struggles to keep her passion alive in “Honey 3,” currently in production in South Africa. The film is filled with performances, a romantic love triangle and cultural clashes.”

Cassie only has three acting credits which were bit parts in the films, Barbian, Step Up 2: The Streets and the forthcoming film The Perfect Match. There’s nothing wrong with her transition into acting but to have her carry the whole film as the lead is a bit much!

Honey 3 will most likely be straight to DVD or straight to ‘Netflix & Chill’ as its being released by Universal 1440 Entertainment, the original content production arm of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Bille Woodruff who directed the previous two films will also direct Honey 3. The script was written by Catherine Cyran and produced by Mike Elliott.
