A Virginia 15-year-old is facing charges of disorderly conduct and petty larceny for taking a carton of milk–a carton that he was entitled to as part of the free lunch program.

According to The Washington Post, last May, Ryan Turk, a student at Graham Park Middle School, realized when got to the table with his food that he forgot his drink. Believing it was OK to cut in line and grab one, a security guard saw him and thought he was stealing. The guard then told Turk to go to the principal’s office, which the now freshman refused. Soon after, Turk was handcuffed and arrested.

Since Turk downed a plea deal, a decision his mother Shamise Turk fully supports.

My son is not going to admit to something he did not do,” she said.

Now, his case will soon go to trial in November, a fact that has enraged his family and supporters.

No one needs to be punished for stealing a 65-cent carton of milk,” said Emmett Robinson, a lawyer who is representing the family and said Ryan’s arrest was related to institutional racism. “This officer treats kids like they’re criminals, and guess what happens — they’re going to become criminals.”

The school denies this incident is racial, citing that the police officer and principal involved are both Black.

All the key parties involved, including the principal and the police officer, are African-American,” said Prince William County schools spokesman Phillip Kavit. “The staff members are well-known in our highly diverse community for their dedication and caring approach to all students.

Yet, Robinson is clear: “It’s not the players, it’s not the people who discriminate, it’s the whole system. The system is set up now so that school resource officers get to determine the impact on a person’s life.”

Sigh. This is just absolutely ridiculous.

Another day, another racist attack against the nation’s first African-American president.

According to the Huffington Post, Boston radio personality Howie Carr recently said on his show that President Barack Obama “didn’t have to work” and was “handed everything” because he’s Black.

This country handed everything to Barack Obama. He didn’t have to work for anything. Just because of the color of his skin, he was given everything. And he still hates the country,” he ranted on-air.

This behavior shouldn’t really come as a surprise.

Carr, an avid Donald Trump supporter and columnist for the Boston Herald, is the same man who at Trump rally in June, taunted Massachusetts State Senator Elizabeth Warren by mocking rendition of a native American war cry. Why? Because Warren is Native.

The sister of the young woman who accused “The Birth of a Nation” director Nate Parker of rape in 1999 believes that Parker is “exploiting [her] sister again.” In a sobering op-ed in VarietySharon Loeflerr opened up about how being raped ruined her sister’s life, which they believe was the root cause of her 2012 suicide.

[My sister] was harassed and hounded, and ended up dropping out. She had just aged out of the foster care system, so it was a big deal for her to go to college. She had a chance at a brand new life, but that was stolen from her,” Loeflerr said.

She also said that adding a rape scene in the film that didn’t exist in Turner’s real life experience is a “cruel insult” to her “sister’s memory.”

I find it creepy and perverse that Parker and Celestin would put a fictional rape at the center of their film, and that Parker would portray himself as a hero avenging that rape.”

And while she is sickened that Parker and Celestin were acquitted, she was pleased when the transcripts were released.

“I have been gratified to see so many people rally to defend my sister. I know she would feel honored, as she never got that level of support in life.”
