Despite closing its doors earlier this summer, “Vibe Magazine” is still a hot commodity. HipHopdx.com reports that on Wednesday, InterMedia Partners in partnership with Uptown Media Group and Blackrock Digital announced that they had purchased “Vibe.” InterMedia executive David Koff explains, quote, “Together with the relaunch of ‘Soul Train’ this fall and the rapid expansion of ‘Uptown Magazine,’ a reinvigorated ‘Vibe’ enables us to serve a broad spectrum of the African- American audience with high quality entertainment and information.” With new ownership now in place, Vibe.com will relaunch immediately, while “Vibe Magazine” will be released quarterly starting in November or December of this year. InterMedia hopes that with changes to its design, content strategy and business model, “Vibe” can return to prominence. After a series of pay cuts, layoffs and a drop in circulation, “Vibe” decided to cease operations at the end of June. At the peak of its popularity, “Vibe” maintained a circulation of more than 800,000 subscriptions.
