Jay-Z is celebrating ten years in the fashion business by teaming up with Spike Lee. This year marks the ten-year anniversary of Jay’s Rocawear line, and the emcee is currently working with Spike Lee on a new commercial. “Hov” spoke about the ad with MTV News saying, quote, “The commercial is about Rocawear, what we meant to the culture; the aspiration to maintain and be around for ten years.” Jay says the spot will feature an advertisement executive working at Rocawear who begins to fantasize about being Jay-Z. Reality finally sets in, but the executive is okay with not being the rap superstar because he has Rocawear on and that’s a start towards being successful. Jay-Z says working with Spike Lee on the project was a special experience, adding that he was more than excited to have the opportunity. He states, quote, “To work with him on a commercial, I think we stole one. That’s how I feel. We’re more than honored. That’s Spike Lee.” A debut date for the commercial has yet to be announced. While Jay-Z currently has his sights set on fashion, September will be a big month musically for the hip-hop star. On September 11th, Jay will drop his highly-anticipated album “The Blueprint Three.” Two nights later, “Hov” will take the stage at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. The show gets underway at 9 p.m. Eastern.
