R&B stars and former lovers Rihanna and Chris Brown almost had a chance meeting in New York this weekend. The “New York Daily News” reports the two were both staying at the Trump International Hotel & Tower on Columbus Circle. A friend of Rihanna’s tells the “Daily News,” quote, “Ri didn’t even know Chris was going to be in town, much less that he was in the same hotel.” The friend adds, quote, “she’s not dumb – she would never mess around with him again.” A friend of Brown’s also confirmed that the two did not meet up stating, quote, “He has called Rihanna since discovering they were staying in such close proximity, but he has definitely not tried to see her.” Brown has since checked out of the hotel, but is still in New York to shoot a video for his song with Mary J. Blige entitled, “Stronger.” Rihanna is currently in the studio with Jay-Z and Kanye West working on her upcoming album.
Last month, Chris Brown pled guilty to assaulting Rihanna in February. He was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to perform 180 days of labor service in his home state of Virginia. Brown was also ordered to remain at least 50 yards away from Rihanna. Last week, he released a video statement in which he publicly apologized for the incident.
