(Washington, DC)  — The Christmas-time fundraising goal hasn’t been met yet, but the Salvation Army is hoping a late surge in donations will change that sometime soon.  Spokesman Ken Forsythe says the Red Kettle campaign raised about 1.4 million dollars this year, but they were hoping for 1.6 million.  Donations sent through the mail are also about 200-thousand dollars off from what the group had hoped, putting the National Capital Area Command about 400-thousand dollars from where it would like to be.  The money raised goes to help those in need in the DC area.  For the next few weeks, a local philanthropist named Muslim Lakhani will match donations coming in from the community up to 150-thousand dollars.
