If you would like to be featured on 93.9 WKYS New Music Monday please submit your song in an MP3 format, your photo, your bio and contact information to our DMV’s OWN page and every Monday we will feature a deserving local artist.
This week’s featured artist is Billy Bang.
What has been the most challenging part for you as an artist?
Maintaining the discipline to do anything else other than the music. I am so caught up in the music, I have to keep remembering the other aspects of the game like self promotion and life circumstances.
What would you say has been a defining moment in your career so far?
The moment when I evolved into producer /engineer. I became the creator and lead architect for my music.
What was it like being featured on BET’s The Deal?
It feels like anything is possible. Seeing yourself on same network as your musical inspirations and the musical greats that came before me was humbling and let me know I need to keep grinding and keep pushing because people are noticing my music.
When did you decide music was something you wanted to do? Have you ever considered another path?
When I was 13 and the first time I was in music studio and recorded something. I never wanted to do anything else.
When it’s all said and done, what do you want the world to remember you as?
As an inspiration to others. Someone not scared to be themselves and allow others to draw inspiration from what I do and let their own light shine.
Although you are originally from NY, how has the DMV impacted your music?
It gave me a more universal approach to making music as opposed to a regional/city type approach…because often you get caught up in your own scene and we are to stubborn to stray away from what we know musically. That has been a problem for a lot of New York artists.
What do you want to have accomplished by the end of 2012?
I hope to have my music reach farther, release an acclaimed project, and be able to perform in at least 15 different new cities.
