(Washington, DC)  –  DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier plans to hold a community meeting this week to address the recent uptick in street robberies.  There have been more than a dozen holdups in various parts of Northwest just in the last week.  Many of the robberies have come at gunpoint, which has more and more residents concerned. Thursday’s community meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Deal Middle School in Friendship Heights, not far from where some of the hold ups have occurred.  So far in 2012, robberies in the District are up more than 200-percent compared to the same time period last year.  Police, along with adding more patrols, are also working with members of the Guardian Angels, who were seen patrolling and handing out leaflets in parts of Northwest yesterday.
