Receive free tax preparation assistance from Prince George’s Community College’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, now through April 14 at the Largo campus. County residents with basic income tax returns, including free electronic filing can schedule an appointment by visiting http://academic.pgcc.edu/cfc. Services are offered by appointment only, Tuesdays, 6-9 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Center for Advanced Technology. Residents will have the opportunity to purchase savings bonds at the time of tax preparation. For additional information, call 301-583-5254.

“Services provided through the VITA program saved seniors and low-income residents nearly $81,250 in tax preparation fees,” said Betty Habershon, director of PGCC’s Community Financial Center. “The VITA program trained more than 225 new volunteers and we are proud of their hard work and dedication to serving the community.”

Last year, the VITA program supported low-income residents of Prince George’s County by preparing more than 1,300 federal and state tax returns, which resulted in a return to the community of more than $750,000 of federal tax refunds and more than $250,000 of Maryland tax refunds.

Residents receive free electronic filing of state and federal tax returns, and refunds are issued within 7-10 days with direct deposit. Taxpayers requesting assistance will need to bring social security cards for themselves and any dependents; prior year tax returns, if available; a check for refund direct deposit information; and their W2, Social Security statement, 1099s and all other tax documents.
