(Frederick, MD)  —  Frederick County Public Schools will be closed Friday, May 18th, the first day of the G8 Summit, which will be held at Camp David.  May 18th will remain a work day for school employees and activities such as Advanced Placement tests, athletics, stage productions and proms will not be cancelled, but events like field trips and assemblies will not be held that day.  School officials made the decision based on fears that there will be a lot of traffic congestion caused by world leaders descending on the county for the two-day summit.  Maryland education officials have granted Frederick County a waiver because their school year will now last only 179 days, one short of what is normally required.
