WKYS’ 93.9 FM’s own Angie Ange will be speaking at the 9th Annual Black Policy Conference: The Fierce Urgency of Now April 5-6, 2013 at the Harvard Kennedy School. Angie will be speaking on ‘BREAKING NEWS AND BREAKING BARRIERS: MEDIA AND PUBLIC POLICY’ along with a panel of other confirmed panelists such as Marcia Chatelain, Professor of History at Georgetown University and Kristal High, Editor-in-Chief and others. The Keynote Speakers are Sheila Johnson, Co-Founder of BET Networks and William “Mo” Cowan, United States Senator. There will be seven panels occurring during the two day conference and Angie will be speaking on the “Breaking News and Breaking Barriers: Media and Public Policy” panel.

As stated in a document, the “Breaking News and Breaking Barriers: Media and Public Policy” panel will cover the following:

“This panel will center on media’s role in policy, politics and progress. Media is an important component of public policy because it constantly assesses the need for and success of policy in real time. Modern day media outlets are tasked with the challenge of determining what news is pertinent, what leadership is salient, and what policy directives are desired by directing the conversation in the black community. This panel will examine the role of media, both historically and currently, in capturing the attention of the black community, serving as a platform for progress, and overcoming challenges to presenting truth in an appealing, motivating, and informative way. In the 50 years since “The Fierce Urgency of Now” was delivered by MLK, we are compelled to consider media’s role in progress and the potential role it can play in shaping the stage of politics, policy, and planning for the future of the black community.”

When asked about participating on such a prestigious panel, Angie states “It’s an honor to be chosen to be a part of the panel. It’s a big opportunity as a radio personality who is dedicated to the community. I’m in it so I see what’s happening in the community first hand. I will be able to speak on behalf of the people I service and the media I represent as well.”
