Football star Aaron Hernandez has been arrested in connection with the murder of ex semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd. Lloyd’s body was found near Hernandez’s Massachusetts home last week.
Hernandez was taken into custody earlier this morning. Law enforcement sources say Hernandez could be charged with obstruction of justice for destroying security footage, which could have been used as evidence. No charges have been formally announced as of yet.
The arrest comes several days after cops searched Hernandez’s home for evidence related to the murder of Lloyd. Lloyd’s body was found last Monday at a park in North Attleborough. Lloyd was reportedly dating Hernandez’s sister.
Following the arrest, the Patriots announced that they released Hernandez from the team via Twitter. The Patriots later posted a press release as well on the social networking site concluding, “We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”
