Late last night in the Fordham Road area (East 184th and Tiebout Avenue, near Fordham University) of the Bronx, two NYPD officers were shot while responding to two separate, but connected attempted robberies.

At around 10:40PM, 30-year-old Andrew Dossi and 38-year-old Aliro Pellerano were about to sign off for the night when they heard radio calls about two robberies and promptly responded. When the cops were in contact with one of the burglars by a Chinese take-out, the criminal shot at both at them, hitting Dossi in the arm and lower back, and Pellerano in his chest and arm. The cops were able to confiscate the suspect’s gun, but the gunman ran off and carjacked a white Chevrolet Camaro from a couple (later found in the early morning, next to an abandoned black Ruger Blackhawk.) The officers were sent to St. Barnabas Hospital, and while in critical condition, both are stable.

The incident is said to be non-related to previous accounts of cops being targeted by gunmen while on duty. Mayor Bill de Blasio held a brief news conference about the Bronx matter saying, “This is another indicator of the dangers our officers face in the line of duty. Thank God, these officers will recover,” de Blasio said.

After the shooting, the subway line for the neighborhood D and B were briefly shut down, as a manhunt began for two suspects. So far, they have spoken to one person they believe is connected to the shooting, as the person in question went to Manhattan’s New York-Presbyterian hospital with a gunshot wound in the back.

There is currently a $10,000 rewards on any information that lead to arrests of the robbers.

*UPDATE*

As of 4:30PM, three suspects have been detained in relation to the crime, including the one that went to Presbyterian and another seen on footage. No charges have been filed yet.
