Black DynamiteThe Boondocks isn’t coming back, but for a while, the show’s absence hurt a little less because of Black Dynamite. Until now, that is.

Carl Jones, who produced both Black Dynamite and The Boondocks, announced on Twitter that the blaxploitation satire was canceled.

And hundreds of thousands are also wearing sad faces on Friday (Feb. 6).

Black Dynamite — based on the 2009 action comedy film — never quite reached the acclaim of The Boondocks, but it was still required weekly viewing partly because of its bizarre twists on black cultural figures. For example, in one episode, Bill Cosby decides to kidnap black stars because of his mad quest for black respectability.

The cancellation is unfortunate news, but at least it ended on a high note: An hour-long The Wiz-based musical focused on police brutality and featuring Tyler The Creator and Erykah Badu.

Godspeed, Black Dynamite.
