In August of 2009, Bow Wow announced he was joining Cash Money Records with plans to release an album tentatively named Greenlight. Much like Busta Rhymes, Omarion, and others, he’ll depart the label having never released a retail album during his tenure. After Twitter speculation early Saturday morning, Bow Wow confirmed his departure via a Facebook video.

“I just feel like I had to part ways, y’all” Bow Wow explained after complimenting and thanking Cash Money co-founder and CEO Bryan “Birdman” Williams. “I want to dictate when my music comes out. I’m tired of going to the studio, making records and then I listen to them. Then they get old. Y’all ask for new music, and when I put it out, I don’t even want to hear it because I’ve been listening to it for two or three months. That has to stop. I’ve got so many records, and they just gotta be heard. I feel like it’s unfair.”

Bow Wow added that he’s avoided the financial clashes that plagued Cash Money artists such as Lil Wayne, Tyga, Juvenile and others. But he stressed removing himself from the traditional album release cycle and reconnecting with Snoop Dogg and Jermaine Dupri, who oversaw his early success.

In addition to movie roles, co-hosting “106 & Park” and taking a role in the CBS drama “CSI: Cyber,” Bow Wow has released four solo albums and one collaborative album with Omarion under So So Def/Columbia.
