Model Pamela Anderson has just announced that she’s been cured of the virus, Hepatitis C. She’s said to have contracted the infection nearly twenty years ago from sharing needles with her former husband, rocker Tommy Lee, an accusation in which he denies.

Those affected typically opt for liver transplant as long term effects of Hep C include liver cancer. Anderson however was fortunate to not have incurred any liver damage over the years.

The 48-year-old posted a naked photo on Instagram and shared her good news with the caption:

“I am CURED!!! – I just found out #nomorehepc…I pray anyone living with Hep C can qualify or afford treatment. It will be more available soon. I know treatment is hard to get still…#dontlosehope.”

According to People Magazine, she was cured within months of starting a new FDA approved anti-viral medication.

“I’ve always been an advocate of trying to remove the stigma from Hepatitis C from AIDS,” she told People Magazine.

You can contract Hep C from having HIV however having Hep C does not mean you have HIV/AIDS.

“Sixteen years ago Hep C was [presented to me] as a death sentence. I think it really worked on my self esteem. Even though I may have looked confident on the outside, I think it really was a dark cloud that lingered over me.”

As the former Baywatch star approaches 50 years old with her restored health she says, “I actually just look in the mirror everyday and I feel like I’m looking younger and younger and I feel like I’m getting those 20 years back.”
