Singer and actor Tyrese is not here for Chris Rock hosting the forthcoming Oscar Awards. The “Transformers” star wants Rock to step down from his hosting duties in efforts to show his support for the countless number of African American actors that were overlooked within this year’s nominations.
“Chris Rock do the right thing make a statement – were relying on you to DO the right thing….. There is NO JOKE YOU CAN CRACK TO EVER CHANGE THE WAY WE ALL FEEL” said Tyrese in an Instagram post.
The “Top Five” star has been relatively quiet in the midst of the Oscar’s backlash. The most the comedian has said following the nominations was via Twitter, “The Oscars are the white BET Awards” he said.
Rock’s routine’s typically include satire related to politics and current events. We think he’s the perfect host to eloquently mix truth with humor. When he previously hosted the Academy Awards in 2005, his opening monologue included jokes about the lack of diversity amongst the nominees.
Putting the self-righteous aspect aside, Rock recently divorced his wife of nearly 20 years, Malaak Compton and he has to pay child support for his two daughters as well as spousal support. Passing up a check from the Academy and ABC is no laughing matter!
We’re looking forward to Chris Rock fulfilling his hosting duties on February 28th! We trust that he’ll make us proud!
Beauties, do you agree with Tyrese that Chris Rock should stand in solidarity with the black community by stepping down as the host? Or is the comedian’s presence at the Oscars necessary?
