Tatum Harrison

Founder and CEO of The Queen Academy, an innovative mentoring program for girls 13-21 in the DMV Area

Tatum is a self-proclaimed “millennial on a mission”. Throughout her life, she has dealt with a multitude of internal battles that many young women deal with today. Her “daddy issues” lead her to have low-self esteem and a lack of self worth. As a result, she noticed that her decisions and relationships she chose were a direct reflection of what was going on internally and in her personal life. It wasn’t until the end of a tumultuous romantic relationship that she realized she had to do the necessary internal work on herself. By surrounding herself with different people, establishing a relationship with God, and various forms of personal development, Tatum began loving herself again. During her junior year of college, she began a blog in an effort to use her stories and experiences to inspire others. In addition to blogging, Tatum began mentoring young women. She quickly noticed that as a result of her mentorship, her mentees began to make positive changes and demand more of themselves. Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s of Art in Public Relations from Morgan State University, Tatum continued mentoring at risk young women in the Washington, DC area. As she searched for more programs to get involved with, she realized that there isn’t a program that encompasses the modern day challenges of young, millennial women. She also couldn’t find an organization that provided an avenue for young women to continue to network and empower one another after program completion. After a request from the pastor of her church to create a teen girl program, Tatum took the first step in creating The Queen Academy. As a social entrepreneur, Tatum is determined to build and maintain a program that will not only impact the lives of the young women and their parents, but make a true mark on society. In a world where young women are over sexualized and mediocrity is celebrated, Tatum wishes to bring back an era where women of substance are the prototype.

In a short period of time, The Queen Academy has quickly expanded from a stand-alone program, to an after school program provider of Prince George’s County Public Schools.

Tatum believes that will faith and hard work, The Queen Academy will continue to grow quickly and make a lasting impact on the community.
