Artist Sued Over Viral Painting Of Donald Trump
While you may not know Illma Gore by name, you’ve most definitely seen her work. She’s seemingly become an overnight success for her infamous painting of Donald Trump nude, with a small penis. The piece which is entitled “Make America Great Again” has attracted over $100,000 in auction bids. Gore claims that she’s received several calls from Trump’s legal team threatening to file a right of publicity lawsuit. Reportedly Facebook has also threatened egal action under for copyright violation under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The artist said she’s speaking out because, “It’s my work and I’ll stand by it no matter what [and] I don’t believe I did anything wrong.” said Gore. NY Daily News
White Officer Alleges He Was Fired Because His Wife & Kids Are Black
John Smelser is suing the Knox County school board and Knox County government. According to the former school security officer, he was fired from his job after being arrested for a domestic dispute with his stepdaughter. “It has been determined that your services are no longer needed” said the school’s superintendent in Smelser’s termination letter that was postmarked May 2015, the same day his charges were dropped. Smelser claims he was terminated because his wife and stepchildren are African American. Allegedly Smelser’s boss, Gus Paidousis, chief of Knox County School security, had a history of making racially insensitive and sexist comments. Smelser’s suit is seeking $250,000 in compensatory damages. USA Today
Baby Found After Alleged Abduction
On Sunday, April 17, an unidentified woman was arguing with her boyfriend while sitting in his gray Audi. Reportedly, the conversation turned violent and the man punched the woman and took her cell phone. Afraid for her safety, the woman got out of the car but the man sped off before she was able to retrieve her 2-year-old daughter from the back seat. Two-hours later, the toddler was dropped off and a random location in approximately to the woman’s home. The baby was unharmed but police are still looking to apprehend the boyfriend who is presently at large. NY Daily News
Woman Dies After Being Electrocuted By Her Phone
A third party phone charger may have contributed to the death of Suhana Mohamad. The Malaysian woman was at home using her cell phone while it was plugged into the wall. Reportedly, an electrical shock woke up Mohamad’s husband and he brought her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. While this is an extreme case, in 2015 a woman in Hong Kong claims she was shocked and her fingers going numb while using her phone. And in 2013, a man reportedly went into a coma after using his iPhone 4 with an off brand charger. The electrical shock left him convulsing on the floor. In efforts to prevent similar potentially fatal situations from happening, Apple is reportedly allowing customers to trade their off brand chargers for authentic ones at a discounted rate. Mashable
