Protesters have gathered near 300 block of M Street NW to protest and ask for information on the police-involved shooting death of Terrence Sterling. Sterling, a Black man, was shot by police after reportedly driving his motorcycle into a police car.

Police say they received reports that Sterling was driving erratically on his motorcycle.

On the shooting, Assistant Police Chief Peter Newsham “The person that was riding the motorcycle attempted to flee, ended up striking the police car and at that point…shots were fired.”

Among the protesters concerns are why police used deadly force when Sterling was unarmed as well as why the involved officer’s body camera was turned off before the shooting took place.
