The president's comments Friday reflect a significant turn from early remarks such as telling people they will have to out-organize voter suppression yet again.

Switching districts set McBath up to primary freshman legislator Carolyn Bordeaux who currently represents the 7th Congressional District. In a statement posted to Twitter, McBath did not mention her colleague opting instead to frame her run for the 7th Congressional District as a part of a promise made to her son Jordan who was murdered in late 2012.   

In a letter to Mayor Bowser addressing the new decision, members say they are worried that "this decision would place the District ahead of the science, including guidance from the Centers for Disease Control that still recommends that masking indoors is the safest at to protect everyone from COVID-19 exposure."

While some have positioned the close race as a cause for concern, it was a historic victory. Murphy is the first Democrat to win re-election in the Garden State in over 40 years. Although the nation's attention focused on the failing of former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, the narrow win in New Jersey offers a glimpse at building on policy strengths and a generally positive trend for the state.
