Legendary Columnist William Raspberry Dead At 76

WASHINGTON — William Raspberry, a Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist for The Washington Post and one of the most widely read black journalists of his generation, has died. He was 76.

Raspberry’s wife, Sondra Raspberry, told The Post that her husband died Tuesday at his home in Washington. He had prostate cancer. A Post spokeswoman confirmed Raspberry’s death.

Raspberry, who grew up in the segregated South, wrote an opinion column for The Post for nearly 40 years, and more than 200 newspapers carried his column in syndication.
