This week’s featured artist is Marlee D.

How long have you been involved in music?

Since 5th Grade. I Started Singing In School Choirs In Elementary, I Went To A Performing Arts School In Middle & Started In Go-Go Bands In High School. My Solo Career Began In April 2011

What are your songs about? How would you describe your music for the public audience?

Overall My Music Is About Female Empowerment. I Never Want To Be The Sad Song Singer. I Believe On Every Track I Should Be Able To Hold My Own Against Or Outshine Any Male Artist. My Music Is Playful, I Like To Try New Concepts & Bring New Outlooks On Frequently Used Concepts. Its Something To Definately Make You Groove & Something You Can Crank In Your Whip

What would you say has been your biggest break, thus far in your music career?

My Performances. My Band & I Have Performed At Least 1 Show A Week Since We Dropped In April, More Then Any Other Artist In This Area To My Knowledge. One Of The Biggest To Date Being UMDs First Homecoming Concert With Fat Trel & Dom Kennedy

If you could perform with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Curren$y. I Know His Music Front To Back & Theres So Much I Can Build Off Of. If I Could Only Be His Hype Girl/Background Singer For One Show

What makes you and your music stand out from the rest?

I Dont Compare Myself To Anyone Else. I Also Believe & Know That There Is No Such Thing As “The Best” In Anything. Being The Best Will Always Be An Opinion That Cannot Be Proven. I Dont Strive For That. I Just Make My Music & Appreciate Everyone Who Listens & Supports. Making Music Is Fun For Me. Im Not Expressing My Troubles, Problems & Struggles; I’d Rather Keep It Positive. Remaining Humble Is A Huge Factor To Me, Everything Ive Achieved Can Be Taken Away From Me In A Second. Also Im Publicizing A New Image For Female Artists As Well As Females In General, Which I Strongly Believe Is Needed

Where would you like to see your music career in the next 1 to 3 years?

Traveling. I Want To Travel The World Performing. I Want My Band, My Manager, & My Whole Team To Come Up, Get This Money & Experience The World & Success Together. We’re All Coming From The Same Place, The Same Problems & The Same Ambitions & Its Really Going To Be Everything To See What We’ve Been Talking About Come To Fruition

How do you spend your free time away from music?

Video Games & TV Are A Huge Pastime Of Mine. People These Days Think They Are Too Smart Or Grown To Do Either & They Can Keep Missing Out If They Want To. I Watch Almost Every Channel From Nickelodeon To Bravo (Yes, I Love Reality TV) To MTV To Food Network To TruTV To The History Channel. Its All In How You Take It. I Know Bad Girls Club Is A Mess But Its Hilarious To Watch. Also, I Dabble In The Business World Working With My Manager’s Company, District Affiliates, LLC (In Which I Am VP). Most Of My Long Term Goals Involve Investing & Becoming An Entrepreneur
