The Howard University Bison community is saddened by the lost of one of its students. Omar Sykes a rising senior Business Marketing major was gunned down in what may have been a robbery attempt. Another student who was with Sykes at the time of the incident was “pistol whipped” and received non life-threatening injuries and 10 stitches to his head. A candle light vigil will be given to Omar on The Yard at the Flag Pole, Saturday July 6th at 8pm. There will also be a community meeting on 744 Euclid Street Monday July 9th. Sykes who was a part of a different organizations on the Howard University campus was always known to brighten your day and make you smile. Sykes was about serving the community in organizations like Noble Black Society and Alpha Phi Omega.

Sykes and the other student were assaulted about 11:30 p.m. at Georgia Avenue and Fairmont Street NW, Howard officials said. Police said two attackers with handguns approached the students and announced a robbery.

Police said they were still investigating whether anything was taken, and they were working to collect surveillance videos from the area.
