The merciless execution of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee stunned the nation. Now, Corey Morgan, a person of interest in the case, has walked free on $1 million bond.

As previously reported by Hello Beautiful, the child was targeted because of his father’s gang ties and a string of shootings between rival gangs. A basketball the boy often carried to and from school was found near his body.

Tyshawn’s father, Pierre Stokes, disagrees with police, claiming that his alleged gang ties had nothing to do with his son’s tragic death. He also argued that police were more concerned about him than the person(s) who killed Tyshawn.

“No, I don’t think it was no retaliation because I never did nothing to — for nobody to hurt my son,” he said to the Chicago Tribune.

“They’re more worried about me. Why are you worried about me, not the killer?” Stokes said outside his residence in the Auburn-Gresham community. “I’m not the killer. Worry about the killer.”

Morgan, the man who may be the killer, cleared the high bail with the help of hospital settlement his girlfriend received.

According to CBS Chicago, “Police are running tests on two .40-caliber pistols they found when they searched a car in which Corey Morgan and Dwight Boone-Doty were driving last week in Evergreen Park.”

Tyshawn’s mother, Karla Lee, was attacked on social media a few days after her son’s death for allegedly using GoFundMe donations raised to bury Tyshawn on a new SUV and a trip to Las Vegas. The grieving mother was forced to go on Instagram and defend herself against people who said she didn’t care about her son.
