The closer it gets to summer, the more events there are on the weekends. And Saturday, June 4, was no exception.
In the New York City area there were three major events that included Governors’ Ball in Randall’s Island park, the Veuve Clicquot at Liberty State Park in NYC, and The Roots Picnic in Philadelphia.
Streamed on Viceland TV, Governors Ball had Robyn, Thundercat, Miguel and De la Soul who did a tribute to the late producer, J Dilla. Tonight’s shows that included Kanye West as the headliner, was cancelled due to severe weather.
There were no performances at the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic but attendees included Michael B(ae) Jordan, Tyson Beckford, Jourdan Dunn and Hannah Bronfman— who were all dressed to impress. Michael went with friends, looking clean, to the annual event that features an actual polo game with horses and jockeys.
Attendees enjoyed unlimited drinks from the French champagne brand, while soaking up the spring sun. A themed event, guests all dressed in their most dapper polo-esque apparel that included some epic hats.
Teasing fans on Friday with a surprise performance from Usher at Brooklyn Bowl, the 9th Annual Roots Picnic had performances from Willow Smith, Zoe Kravitz’s Lolawolf, Kaytranada, Migos, DMX, Swizz Beatz, Leon Bridges, Future, and Jidenna— to name a few.
Attendees were treated to special moments like Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff performing “Summertime” with Willow and DMX reuniting with his father onstage after decades of being estranged. Nicki Minaj was also there with her boyfriend, Meek Mill backstage.
Crowds at all three stages were in great spirits —singing along with the acts, including the headliners Usher and The Roots. Attendees also enjoyed great weather and food booths.
As a teaser Questlove shared on Instagram that another Roots Picnic will be happening in New York sometime this year.
