Article One is not just your average indie eyewear company. In addition to giving you stunning sunglasses and enthralling eyewear, when you don their designs, you are giving back to others.
One million children die or go blind each year from Vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A is vital for bone growth as well as immune system and reproductive health. It’s imperative for healthy vision. Article One was founded to help increase the funding for vitamin A supplementation in developing countries. When founder, Wes Stoody, discovered that it only takes $1 a year to fund a year’s worth of life-saving supplements for one child, he knew he had to take action.
Discovering the above problem, coupled with the lack of high-quality products in the cause-driven space, he dedicated his time and efforts to create Article One. Every pair of Article One sunglasses or glasses sold, results in $2 donated to Helen Keller International.
“We’ve been able to donate enough to get vitamin A supplements to 12,000 kids.” ~ Wes Stoody, Article One Founder
Article One is based in the heart of Flint, and while it has gotten major press over the past year for the water crisis, the city has been severely economically depressed sine the late ’80’s after the closure General Motors plants and the decline of the automobile industry.
“Flint has obviously had its massive problems, but one of the amazing aspects of Flint is the diverse culture that exists here.” ~ Wes Stoody
Wes has been so impacted and is committed to the community of Flint that he shifted his business model to provide immediate help to the people. Article One has recently launched, The Flint Collection, a three-piece capsule collection where 100% of the profits will benefit the Flint Child Health & Development Fund. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is!
They have utilized “Flint role models” to model the new collection. Article One chose individuals enacting positive change in the Flint community. The models range from Mari Copeny, darlingly dubbed, Little Miss Flint, who lobbied and had President Obama visit to Mama Sol, hip-hop artist, activist, and teacher and more.
The sunglasses average for about $225.00 and you can shop the Flint collection (and support Flint Michigan!), here.
