Drug Kingpin Joaquin 'Chapo' Guzman Recaptured in Mexico

UPDATE:

Earlier on Friday it was reported by many reputable news sources that the notorious Mexican drug lord known as El Chapo had escaped from prison for an astonishing third time.

Not so, however, as the report was later discovered to be an elaborate hoax played on hundreds of thousands. The story originally broke from a sham news source posing to be ABC News, only upon taking a close look did people begin to realize the additional .co in the website’s link.

No one knows why the hoax was played, but as far as we know, the head of the Sinaloa cartel remains behind bars.

In the midst of all of the madness happening in the world and on social media for the past 72 hours, things just got a little more bizarre.

According to reports, drug kingpin El Chapo is rumored to have escaped a Mexican prison for a third time on Friday. The 61-year-old was sentenced to 20 years in prison for murder and drug trafficking in 1993, but after allegedly paying off guards back in 2001, he was able to escape maximum-security prison.

The famous drug lord made headlines again in 2014 when was found in Mexico, where he was captured and put back in prison – where he escaped again – through a tunnel.

Before being captured in a shootout in January 2016, the U.S. government offered a $5 million reward towards containing the fugitive, who became known as one of the world’s most wanted men.

News of El Chapo’s most recent escape quickly shot to the number one Trending Topic spot on Twitter, surpassing the Dallas shooting, Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.
