Diddy, excuse me… Dr. Sean Combs, did his thing today as the commencement speaker for Howard University’s graduating class of 2014. Dr. Combs’ entire family was there .. even the Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige was there to share this special day.
“Commitment to excellence, leadership and solid work ethic has propelled you to the forefront of the world of business for over two decades…..”
“…recently named one of the most influential people in the world by both TIME Magazine and CNN, your renowned reputation as a master brand builder, pop culture icon, an advocate for youth education and entrepreneurship is one of your stellar trademarks…”
After being presented with his Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humanities, Dr. Combs began his commencement speech by thanking God, his family, the faculty and the class of 2014 for welcoming him back home… “Aint no Homecoming like and HU Homecoming”.
Dr. Combs speech, which was a little over 40 minutes, was personal, moving, touching, at times a little funny but overall motivational and extremely inspirational. His delivery was filled with the “Diddy Charisma” you would come to expect, however you could tell the events of the day had him a little nervous. His words were authentic and he especially touched everyone when he shared personal stories ranging from his first day as a student on Howard’s campus, to finding out on the second day of school the real reason for the “death of his father”, “Howard University/Bison Love” and the Marathon of Life, literally.
