Nine days and a wake up, is what rapper Remy Ma described her last days in prison as she chatted with Angie Martinez on Power 105.1. The Grammy-nominated MC is best known as one time Terror Squad’s leading lady who landed herself in some serious trouble six and a half years ago. After a night of drinking in New York’s Meatpacking District , Remy Ma accused a friend of stealing money from her purse, pulled out a gun and shot the then 24-year-old woman. A tearful apology during her trial left the rapper with the possibility of facing 25 years in prison.
Fast forward six and a half year, Remy is set to be released on July 31st. First thing she plans on doing? Seeing her P.O. “I don’t want no problems” the New Yorker reveals with Angie as she reminiscences on all the little things you take for granted when you’re free. She knows she has grown up a lot since first being put in jail joking that “I was really crazy, this is why people were saying I was crazy” but don’t get it confused she is still the same woman, just more mature.
Maturing isn’t the only thing that has changed about Remy. She is now married to Brooklyn rapper Papoose. Reflecting on their time together, she was pleasantly surprised that the rapper held her down, calling him “official”. Her conversation with Angie turned to another influential man in her life, Fat Joe. Calling it an epiphany she reveals that it “killed” her to reach out to him, but it’s all good blood now between the rapper who she has so much love for. A collaboration with the him is still up in the air.
As for her rap career, Remy has plenty of work ready for the rap world. Calling her “pen game crazy”, she’s ready to be another strong female influence in a world dominated by men. With plenty of supporters behind her like female rap superstar Nicki Minaj, she’s ready to take the city of New York and “she’s not a problem, but it’s going to be a problem.” Oh, and she hasn’t softened so don’t try anything.
