As many have speculated the Whitney Houston biopic that aired on Lifetime last night starring Yaya DaCosta was met with mixed reviews. The film was the directorial debut for Angela Bassett, who was a friend and former co-star with Houston in “Waiting To Exhale.” Houston’s family (who didn’t clear) the movie was very vocal about the movie and expressed their concerns to her fans;

“If you watch this movie, watch it knowing that Lifetime is notorious for making bad biopics of deceased celebrities and brace yourself for the worst,” Pat Houston wrote.

It is always tough to see the dark and negative side of your favorite artist, actor or whomever you hold in high regard. Although the movie showed the tumultuous love-hate relationship Whitney had with ex-husband Bobby Brown and her battle with drugs, I think it showcased the vulnerabilities that she possessed as well. Black Twitter also had mixed reviews on the movie as well. Folks made sure to chime in with Tweets using the #Whitney and #WhitneyMovie

Could the movie been better? Yes. Should her story be told on the big-screen with the backing and approval from her family? Yes. Will we ever see it with the honest truth being told? TBD.
