Ivy Park is coming under fire following allegations that it is produced in “sweatshop conditions.”

According to The Sun, workers at a Sri Lankan factory are reportedly paid the equivalent of $6.17 per day to make the activewear collection co-founded by Beyoncé and Topshop. The British publication also claims that most of the workers are young women who live in a 100-room boarding house and put in 60 hours of work per week.

All we do is work, sleep, work, sleep” one 22-year-old seamstress told The Sun. “We don’t have our own kitchen or shower, it’s just a small bedroom. We have to share the shower block with the men so there isn’t much privacy. It is shocking and many of the women are very scared.”

An Anti-Slavery International advocate has spoken out against the conditions, saying: “This is a form of sweat shop slavery. There are a number of elements here that tick the boxes in terms of slavery, the low pay, restriction of women’s movement at night and locking them in.”

Feeling the heat, Ivy Park responded to the controversy with the following statement:

Ivy Park has a rigorous ethical trading program. We are proud of our sustained efforts in terms of factory inspections and audits, and our teams worldwide work very closely with our suppliers and their factories to ensure compliance.”

Will you still be buying Ivy Park?
