Twitter is on a mission to amp up its diversity efforts, and appointing Debra Lee, CEO of BET, is one of its next moves, Forbes reports.
The cable exec tweeted her excitement out to her followers:
The executive chairman of Twitter’s board, Omid Kordestani, also tweeted welcoming the new member:
Debra’s lauded career is marked with many accolades, including the Vanguard Award from the National Cable and Telecommunications Association in 2003, and the Woman of the Year Award from the Women in Cable and Telecommunications Association in 2001. This new role is definitely another notch on her already fleeky resume.
Debra’s seat on the board, suggests that Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is following through with his plans to boost diversity on the social media site’s board.
Congrats, Debra!
