President Obama is slated to visit Dallas on Tuesday and pay homage to the five police officers who died following a protest last week. The president was invited by Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings to speak at an interfaith memorial ceremony. According to the White House, President Obama will also meet with the families of the fallen officers. Vice President Joe Biden, former president George W. Bush, and his wife Laura will all attend the service. Bush will also deliver remarks at the ceremony. “As tough, as hard, as depressing as the loss of life was this week, we’ve got a foundation to build on. We just have to have to confidence that we can build on those better angels of our nature,” said President Obama in a statement on Saturday. He plans to meet with civil rights leaders, community activists, and law enforcement officials at the White House soon. “I want to start moving on constructive actions that are actually going to make a difference, because that is what all Americans want,” he said. GoFundMe Campaign for Alton Sterling Triples its Goal

A GoFundMe campaign launched by actress Issa Rae for the children of Alton Sterling has significantly surpassed its goal. The campaign garnered $684,666 in the past four days, which was more than triple its $200,000 goal. Over 23,000 people donated money. Some of the money will go to Sterling’s son’s college education and the rest of the funds will be given to his wife and other two children for financial support. Another GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the family of Philando Castile. That campaign has also exceeded its goal; bringing in over $170,000 in four days. There is also a campaign created for the officers affected by the police shooting in Dallas. That fundraiser has garnered just over $13,000 in three days. Read more.


Students at School that Philando Castile Worked at Hold March

Many people took to the streets this past weekend to protest against the senseless acts of violence that occurred throughout our country last week. Amongst those who protested were young children that Philando Castile worked with. Nearly 250 children walked to J.J. Hill Montessori School holding signs with words like “Stop the killing,” “No justice, no peace,” and “Don’t shoot, I’m 5.” Castile worked at the school’s cafeteria. He served the St. Paul School District for the last 14 years. “They’re affected by it and they see it just like we do. But they are not absorbing it the way that we do,” said Carneada Milton, who organized the protest. Students also left heartfelt letters for Castile. “This year I was going to give you a gift but then you dided but I’m giving you a gift anyway! You hade the bigest heart ever,” read one letter. “I rilly miss you. I rilly rilly miss you. You the best lunch man we could ever have. I wish you were alive. I hope—You have rainbows in your heart.” Read more.


Actress Leslie Jones Slays Red Carpet in Dress Designed by Christian Siriano

After putting the fashion industry on blast for not being able to find a designer who would dress her for her Ghostbusters premiere, actress Leslie Jones teamed up with a designer and slayed the red carpet. Designer Christian Siriano stepped in and created a dress for Jones, who has a six-foot frame, and she left people in awe when she showed up at the premiere. Jones donned an off-the-shoulder red gown with a thigh-high slit. “I want to thank my baby @csiriano for making me this fabulous gown and for my wonderful stylist @bmcstylez for putting this look all together!,” she posted on Instagram. Christian Siriano also showed Jones love on his Instagram. “Now that’s how you do it! You look stunning Leslie! Chevy Drops Wendy Williams After NAACP and HBCU Comments

Television host Wendy Williams is in hot water after making negative statements about the NAACP and HBCUs on her show. While discussing actor Jesse Williams’ BET acceptance speech during her “Hot Topics” segment, she stated, “On the other hand, I would be really offended if there was a school that was known as a historically white college. We have historically black colleges. What if there was the National Organization for White People, only? There’s the NAACP.” Following those comments, Williams received a lot of backlash and Chevrolet, one of her sponsors, decided to drop her. According to sources, Williams has been distressed ever since the comments, but she refuses to apologize. Read more.
