Louisville football star Lamar Jackson made history on Saturday night when he became the youngest person ever to receive the Heisman Trophy. The 19-year-old college football player received the 82nd award for an outstanding sophomore season with the Cardinals. In 2016 Jackson, who hails from Pompano Beach, had 3,390 passing yards, scored 30 touchdowns and had 9 interceptions. He led the team to a 9-3 record. Jackson received 526 first-place votes for the award, topping Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. “We knew how well he could run the football, and he did a tremendous job of running it,” said Louisville head football coach Bobby Petrino. “The improvement that he’s made since he came to our program is because of his dedication and his hard work and his drive.” Read more.


White Supremacist Banner Discovered In Libertyville

Ever since Donald Trump won the presidential election, racial tensions in the U.S. have heightened as blatant signs of bigotry are becoming all too common throughout our country. Libertyville, Illinois is the latest community to be affected by White supremacist messages. On Sunday morning, residents awoke to a large yellow sign with the words “Hail Trump – Unscrupulous America – Make America White Again.” Libertyville resident Alison Montgomery immediately called police officials to have the banner removed, however, there was little they could do. “It was something where we don’t legally have the authority,” said Libertyville Sgt. Ed Sindles. “It’s on private property. So we don’t have the authority to have it removed, but we did contact the business owner to have it removed. To take down something that is offensive to someone else, that’d be a violation of their civil rights and free speech.” Read more.


Ex-NFL Star Will Smith’s Killer Found Guilty Of Manslaughter

The man who took the life of former NFL player Will Smith has been convicted of manslaughter. On Sunday night, a jury found 29-year-old Cardell Hayes guilty of killing Smith and shooting and wounding Smith’s wife Racquel following a road rage dispute that occurred on April 9. “Racquel’s heart is full of gratitude for the entire staff of the New Orleans District Attorney’s Office and the members of the police department who worked tirelessly on this case,” said a spokeswoman for the Smith family. Hayes’ legal team claims he acted in self-defense. He now faces up to 40 years behind bars for the charges. He’s slated to be sentenced on February 17. Read more.


Oprah Winfrey Spotted Doing Brunch In Queens

Media mogul Oprah Winfrey was spotted doing brunch at the Goodfellas Diner in Maspeth, Queens on Sunday. Winfrey was reportedly shooting a spread for O, The Oprah Magazine. The diner was closed to customers for the shoot. Brunch menu items included egg sandwiches on wheat bread and fruit. Michael Diamantis, a chef and waiter at the diner, says that Winfrey was very pleasant. The Goodfellas Diner, which was previously called the Clinton Diner, has been used as the backdrop for several television shows and films including the popular Goodfellas series. Winfrey’s best friend Gayle King was also spotted at the restaurant. Read more.


‘First Family Of Hip-Hop’ Coming To Bravo

A new Bravo reality series will capture the chronicles of a family that left an indelible mark in the realm of hip-hop. The show, titled First Family of Hip-Hop, will be centered on the Robinson family, whose claim to fame was the creation of Sugarhill Records. The record label was launched by the late Sylvia Robinson in the 1970s and garnered notoriety with artists like the Sugarhill Gang and Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. The family’s next generation of music artists and producers are looking to continue the legacy and put the label back at the forefront of the music industry. The show is being created under Mad Fusion and Left/Right productions. It’s executive produced by Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, Anneka Jones, Danielle Medina, Glenda N. Cox, and Ashley M. Buie. First Family of Hip-Hop is slated to premiere on Bravo on January 15 at 9 p.m. ET. Read more.
