The True Story Behind #NYCStripperStrike (And How It Can Be Fixed)

According to some of social media’s most popular dancers, New York City’s strip clubs are on the brink of civil war.

Dancers across the city aren’t going to work, and they’re using the hashtag #NYCStripperStrike to air out their issues.

The main problem: Bartenders are allegedly taking stage time and tips from their co-workers, breaking a sacred code of the club.

Model and dancer Casci Sade posted a video on her IG explaining the situation with video evidence.

“I repeat I am not hatin! But these are bartenders. On stage! How are we supposed to make money. You on our set. We don’t go behind your bar and make drinks. The clubs allow this behavior. We just want professional courtesy!”

The strike started on Sunday (October 22) when dancer Gizelle Marie vented to Instagram about her frustration with how NYC clubs are being managed..

She posted:

I’m so sick of seeing my fellow dancers in New York complain about deserving what is supposed to be theirs. Listen you bum ass fucking promoters and club owners y’all fucking up the damn money with your stupid ideas as to who should be making money. 

Me nor any dancer should have to leave the comfort of their own home/city  to make a fucking check. If y’all don’t start promoting dancers to get more money thrown at (than) your bartenders (you’re) gonna (lose) your dancers.

Since her post, Gizelle has been using her account to promote a city-wide stripper strike.

Aside from the money issue with bartenders, Gizelle also called out racist clubs who treat light-skinned and Latinas better than Black women.

For the doubters, Gizelle quoted an interview with Cardi B as proof of the colorism that’s run NYC clubs for years.

Following Gizelle’s lead, Maliah Michel and dancers nationwide have posted to support and spread word of the strike.
